Routes 2M and Peak Service on Route 6 and 1 will be suspended beginning on Monday June 1st

Los Alamos, New Mexico—Due to a staff shortage, Atomic City Transit (ACT) will suspend operations of Route 2M and certain peak service trips on Routes 6 and 1 beginning Monday, June 1, 2026, until further notice. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate our riders’ understanding during this time.

Transit Manager, James Barela, indicated that this decision was not made lightly. “Suspending these services is a difficult decision because we understand how important and widely used, they are by our residents. Due to the shortage of trained and qualified drivers, our supervisors and dispatch staff have been driving routes daily to maintain service. While they have stepped up tremendously, it has limited the time available to properly train our recently hired drivers before they can be placed into service. This situation has stretched our existing staff significantly."

Barela continued, "I want to thank the entire team at Atomic City Transit for their dedication, flexibility, and professionalism during this challenging time. This decision was made after discussions with staff and supervisors, with the goal of maintaining safe and reliable service where possible. We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding. If you know someone interested in becoming a driver for Atomic City Transit, we encourage them to apply through the County website.”
