Due to ongoing dry conditions and prevailing high winds, Fire Marshal Colorado Cordova of the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) has elevated fire restrictions to Stage 2, effective May 28, 2026 within the boundaries of Los Alamos County to safeguard public health and safety, as well as protect lands, structures, natural and historical artifacts.
Residential construction permits allow alteration and construction projects on your home. Please see our Permit Types and Checklists section for a list of available project permits.
Please note that you should not start construction before obtaining your permit. If you do, you will incur double fees and risk delays by being required to remove some of your work for inspection purposes.
Each project has a checklist to help ensure that you have everything needed for the application process.
We recommend you go through your project checklist before submitting your application.
