Due to ongoing dry conditions and prevailing high winds, Fire Marshal Colorado Cordova of the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) has elevated fire restrictions to Stage 2, effective May 28, 2026 within the boundaries of Los Alamos County to safeguard public health and safety, as well as protect lands, structures, natural and historical artifacts.
Second Hearts Ranch is a hobby farm in Los Alamos County that opens its farm to the public during our open hours. We offer an amazing experience for the whole family to come to a working hobby farm and visit with our animals. We do open houses and playgroups at our farm as well as a horseback riding academy. You can love on anything from a llama to a baby MINI calf named Daisy. We offer treat bags to feed the animals for $3, pony rides on professional lesson horses for $10, and entry into the hobby farm is $10 ages 2+ and families of 4 $35. On Tuesdays at 11am, we offer a playgroup with a craft and a meet-and-greet with one of the animals on the farm. The playgroup is $10 per family. We are a horseback riding lesson facility. We offer private horse lessons for ages 5 to 95. The private lessons are $70 for an hour of instruction and a 15-minute horsemanship lesson on how to take care of your horse when you're not in the saddle.
