Welcome to the Los Alamos County Housing Division.

The Housing Division is dedicated to developing and implementing programs that maintain and expand both affordable and market-rate housing opportunities for all segments of the Los Alamos community.

To further serve our residents, the Housing Division partners with the Santa Fe Community Housing Trust, a non-profit service provider. Through this partnership, income-qualified Los Alamos households can access down payment assistance loans for aspiring homebuyers and home rehabilitation loans for current homeowners looking to repair or improve their properties.

We provide proactive policy direction and project management to increase the local supply of affordable, workforce, and market-rate housing. The division actively solicits public/private partnerships to develop new affordable and market rate housing on County owned land to meet the needs of our community.

To ensure long-term success, the Housing Division monitors compliance with all State and Federal regulations, actively engages in regional housing strategies, and updates and refines County housing programs', policies, procedures, and strategies.

Los Alamos County does not provide services or manage housing directly. Los Alamos Commerce and Development Corporation maintains a spreadsheet on affordable and market rate rentals compiled by local area agencies and various property owners and managers. This list is subject to change without notice, and vacancies cannot be guaranteed.

The Housing Division may be emailed at Housing@losalamosnm.gov.

Housing support

Los Alamos County's Social Services Division oversees a spectrum of programs centered around community health, well-being, and support for unhoused persons. Los Alamos residents of all ages can receive assistance with access to housing and food support, health insurance and benefits, and other resources to help meet their needs.

Los Alamos County collaborates with the Santa Fe Civic Housing Authority (SFCHA) – Española Office to provide Section 8 assistance. SFCHA has informed the County that the current waiting list is approximately two years long. Additionally, they will not be visiting Los Alamos this quarter but hope to resume visits in late fall. For updates on their schedule, times, and contact information, please visit the Healthcare, Financial, Housing, Food and Legal Resources web page.

New Mexico Legal Aid provides a Landlord & Tenant Hotline, which you can call at 1-833-545-4357.
