Alerts and Current Conditions

Here’s what you need to know:

What are flash floods?

They are sudden, intense floods that can develop quickly during storms. Flash floods can uproot trees, wash away bridges, and carry dangerous debris. Even sunny areas can be at risk if storms occur upstream.

Stay Safe and Follow these Quick Tips:

Stay alert - Check the weather in your area and upstream. Alerts and current conditions are available on the County website. Flash floods can arrive even if it’s not raining nearby.

When hiking, avoid canyons and arroyos during storms; seek higher ground if rain is near.

Tell someone your plans and return time.

Keep pets and children away from canyons/arroyos during monsoon season.

Never walk or drive through floodwaters, six inches can knock you down, two feet can sweep away cars

If flooding occurs, shelter in place and stay calm. Emergency crews will help when it’s safe.

Protect yourself and others this monsoon season, stay informed, stay vigilant, and never underestimate the dangers of floodwaters.
