Due to ongoing dry conditions and prevailing high winds, Fire Marshal Colorado Cordova of the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) has enacted fire restrictions to Stage 1, effective April 28, within the boundaries of Los Alamos County to safeguard public health and safety, as well as protect lands, structures, natural and historical artifacts. Treated effluent is used for wash-water at the Los Alamos Wastewater Treatment Plant to conserve potable water. To accomplish this, a booster station pressurizes the effluent and distributes it throughout the plant. The booster station requires a high amount of maintenance and will soon require refurbishment. This project will allow effluent water to be piped to the plant via gravity, eliminating the need for the booster station. This will result in energy and operations-related savings.
