Los Alamos County Enters Stage 1 Fire Restrictions April 28, 2026

Due to ongoing dry conditions and prevailing high winds, Fire Marshal Colorado Cordova of the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) has enacted fire restrictions to Stage 1, effective April 28, within the boundaries of Los Alamos County to safeguard public health and safety, as well as protect lands, structures, natural and historical artifacts. Sustainability and Conservation Initiatives

Los Alamos County Sustainability Manager Angelica Gurule is heading up a sustainability initiative. This initiative aims to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions and advance other sustainable practices county-wide.

This effort is guided by the many recommendations presented by the Los Alamos Resiliency, Energy and Sustainability (LARES) citizen task force in February 2022 (See the below for additional information on this task force and their final report).

Projects

The following projects are currently underway. These strategies are identified in the adopted Climate Action Plan to help Los Alamos County reduce its carbon emissions.
