Due to ongoing dry conditions and prevailing high winds, Fire Marshal Colorado Cordova of the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) has enacted fire restrictions to Stage 1, effective April 28, within the boundaries of Los Alamos County to safeguard public health and safety, as well as protect lands, structures, natural and historical artifacts. A comprehensive condition assessment of both the Abiquiu and El Vado Hydroelectric plants will be performed. A consultant will be hired to perform a condition assessment of the turbine, generator and all support systems to evaluate the condition and future needs of the plants. The condition assessment will identify and recommend necessary upgrades, O&M tasks and equipment replacement. The results of the assessment will be the basis of our capital improvement planning for these facilities over the next decade.
