Due to ongoing dry conditions and prevailing high winds, Fire Marshal Colorado Cordova of the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) has enacted fire restrictions to Stage 1, effective April 28, within the boundaries of Los Alamos County to safeguard public health and safety, as well as protect lands, structures, natural and historical artifacts. Many overhead components of DPU’s electric infrastructure operate near or past their useful life. Some are 50+ years old. The Asset Management Program prioritizes these projects systematically. The O&M program includes replacement of power poles, cross-arms, and revamps (wire & transformer upgrades). Priorities for FY2025 include: Rendija Canyon (complete), Monte Rey South, Monte Rey North, and recloser replacements at the Los Alamos Wastewater Treatment Plant (complete).
