Due to ongoing dry conditions and prevailing high winds, Fire Marshal Colorado Cordova of the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) has enacted fire restrictions to Stage 1, effective April 28, within the boundaries of Los Alamos County to safeguard public health and safety, as well as protect lands, structures, natural and historical artifacts. This board is established to serve as the central point of contact for environmental sustainability issues and as an advisory board to the County Council on environmental sustainability issues. The board's responsibilities include gathering and providing citizen input to staff and Council on ways to improve the County's environmental sustainability and on proposed environmental sustainability policies, programs, and services; and recommend ways to involve and educate the community on environmental sustainability issues.
