Due to ongoing dry conditions and prevailing high winds, Fire Marshal Colorado Cordova of the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) has enacted fire restrictions to Stage 1, effective April 28, within the boundaries of Los Alamos County to safeguard public health and safety, as well as protect lands, structures, natural and historical artifacts. The Los Alamos County Art in Public Places Board (APPB) has extended the submission deadline for its call for art to create a functional, artistic security gate for the Betty Ehart Senior Center. Artists now have until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 13, 2024, to submit their proposals.
This commissioned piece will enhance the beauty of the space while meeting the safety and functionality needs of the location. Artists are encouraged to bring their unique vision to the project and may take inspiration from “Odetta,” the artistic gate by K.R. (Cricket) Ernst at Mesa Public Library. The selected gate must also include a County-supplied panic bar for emergency use.
Submission Details:
Artists must provide a narrative description, installation specifications, a color rendering or photograph of the proposed design, a resume, and examples of previous work. Submissions should be sent to chelsea.ashcraft@lacnm.us or mailed to:
