Due to ongoing dry conditions and prevailing high winds, Fire Marshal Colorado Cordova of the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) has enacted fire restrictions to Stage 1, effective April 28, within the boundaries of Los Alamos County to safeguard public health and safety, as well as protect lands, structures, natural and historical artifacts. Camp May, located near Pajarito Ski Mountain, will close for the season on October 31. The popular site, offering scenic picnic areas and fire pits, will reopen on May 1, 2025, weather permitting. Camp May, situated approximately six miles west of Los Alamos, provides visitors with an ideal outdoor setting for family gatherings, picnics, and camping. As temperatures drop and winter approaches, the site will close for the season to ensure safety during the winter months.
