Due to ongoing dry conditions and prevailing high winds, Fire Marshal Colorado Cordova of the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) has enacted fire restrictions to Stage 1, effective April 28, within the boundaries of Los Alamos County to safeguard public health and safety, as well as protect lands, structures, natural and historical artifacts. Los Alamos County will host a question-and-answer session on Wednesday, October 8, from 5:30–7 p.m. in Council Chambers, 1000 Central Ave., to discuss Metropolitan Redevelopment Areas (MRAs) in Los Alamos and White Rock. A hybrid option will be available for remote participation via Zoom.
Staff from the Community Development Department will provide an overview of MRAs, explain how they are designated, and answer questions about opportunities for property owners and the broader community. MRAs are districts where public and private investment can be focused to revitalize underutilized or blighted areas.
The designation of MRAs in Los Alamos and White Rock could help support new housing, local businesses, and improvements to public spaces. County staff will also review potential funding mechanisms and how redevelopment projects could leverage both public and private investment.
The session will be recorded and posted to the Los Alamos County website for those unable to attend. For more information, contact Anita Barela at anita.barela@losalamosnm.gov.
