Los Alamos County officials are alerting residents to a phone scam involving fraudulent claims about delinquent property taxes.
According to the County’s Finance Division, some residents have reported receiving calls instructing them to make immediate payments over the phone. Officials emphasize that County staff do not contact property owners by phone or email regarding late taxes. All official delinquency notices are issued only by U.S. mail.
Residents who are uncertain about the status of their property taxes are encouraged to contact Alex Lerma or Zhen Liu with the Finance Division at 505-662-8060 for verification.
Anyone who receives a suspicious call is urged not to provide personal or financial information and to report the incident to the Los Alamos Police Department at 505-662-8222.
