Curbside Brush Collection Resumes, Additional Services Provided

Beginning the week of Monday, March 24th, Los Alamos County Environmental Services will resume residential curbside brush cart collection (brown bins).

In response to elevated wildfire concerns, additional brush collection services are temporarily being offered from March 24 through May 9, 2025.  These additional services are as follows:

• An extra brush cart service will be collected alongside and during recycling (blue bin) collection weeks.  Therefore, curbside brush cart service collection will occur on regularly scheduled pickup days every week through May 9th.
• During regular brush cart service (weeks of March 24, April 7, April 21, and May 5), a curbside brush bulk pickup will be offered to residents.  The following guidelines and limitations apply:

• Residents must sign-up and schedule a bulk pickup on a first come, first serve basis by contacting Environmental Services by phone at (505) 662-8163 or email at solidwaste@lacnm.us.
• Residents must utilize 3 of their 12 annual free loads.
• A maximum of 15 bulk service pickups per day will be performed.
• Bulk brush items are limited to 8 cubic yards per household (yard and brush waste only!)
• Place materials curbside, away from powerlines, utility boxes, manhole covers, and other obstacles.
• Use brown brush bags to collect and contain smaller items such as pine needles, leaves and smaller branches. The bags should be securely tied and contain only yard waste to prevent contamination and damage to brush mulching equipment.
• For larger brush or tree branches, bundle them into manageable piles to facilitate collection.
• Avoid placing materials that are too large for the collection vehicle to handle.  Example - oversized logs exceeding 12” in diameter and tree stumps.
• By following these guidelines and preparing properly, residents can help ensure that the curbside collection process runs smoothly and efficiently. 

As a reminder, residents can drop off yard waste at the Eco Station seven days a week, and at Overlook Convenience Center in White Rock Friday through Tuesday (3 cubic yard load restriction).  Regular bulk service collection is also available year-round for a small charge.

The curbside brush program offers a convenient way for residents to dispose of their yard waste while helping to keep neighborhoods clean and safe, while these temporary program enhancements offer another way to help reduce the threat of wildfires.
