Due to ongoing dry conditions and prevailing high winds, Fire Marshal Colorado Cordova of the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) has enacted fire restrictions to Stage 1, effective April 28, within the boundaries of Los Alamos County to safeguard public health and safety, as well as protect lands, structures, natural and historical artifacts. As we move into the colder months, frost will become a regular occurrence at the Los Alamos County Golf Course. It's important for everyone to be mindful of the impact frost can have on the grass. When the grass is frosted, it becomes fragile, and any pressure, whether from walking, biking, or driving golf carts, can cause lasting damage. The effects of frost damage may not be immediately visible but typically appear within 48-72 hours, turning the grass brown as it dies.
To help protect the course, please avoid grassy areas when frost is present. If you're unsure whether the grass is frosted, we encourage you to contact the Golf Shop at (505) 662-8139 or stay on the cart paths and designated trails until the staff gives the all-clear.
Your cooperation helps keep our course in great condition for everyone to enjoy, year-round. The most common months for frost are October through March, so we appreciate your attention during this time!
