Due to ongoing dry conditions and prevailing high winds, Fire Marshal Colorado Cordova of the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) has enacted fire restrictions to Stage 1, effective April 28, within the boundaries of Los Alamos County to safeguard public health and safety, as well as protect lands, structures, natural and historical artifacts. UPDATE: 12/26/25 at 8:20 a.m.: Main Hill Road has been cleared and is open.

12/26/25 @7:30 a.m.: The Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) report that both east and westbound lanes of NM 502, main hill, are closed due to a rockslide near Anderson Overlook.
LAPD officers are on scene and the New Mexico Department of Transportation is en route. Traffic is being rerouted to East Jemez Road or the Truck Route.
At this time, there is no estimated timeline for when the roadway will reopen. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
