Due to ongoing dry conditions and prevailing high winds, Fire Marshal Colorado Cordova of the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) has enacted fire restrictions to Stage 1, effective April 28, within the boundaries of Los Alamos County to safeguard public health and safety, as well as protect lands, structures, natural and historical artifacts. The New Mexico Department of Transportation will close the westbound lane of N.M. 502 today, May 19, beginning at approximately 10 a.m. to place asphalt sealant on the roadway.
A 3-mile flagging operation will be in place beginning east of the N.M. 4/N.M. 502 interchange at mile marker 7.0 and continue to mile marker 4.5 east of Camino Entrada. The lane closure is expected to remain in effect until about 4 p.m.
Motorists are advised to expect delays and exercise caution when traveling through the area. Westbound motorists may use the Truck Route to avoid delays.
