The Public Works Capital Projects & Facilities Division invites residents to participate in a second online survey to collect feedback on a potential shade structure for the Los Alamos County Ice Rink. This feedback will help inform the decision-making process regarding improvements to the outdoor rink. The survey is open to the public from April 10-24 (14 days).
Between January 9-29, 2025, an initial survey for this study solicited broad input from the community regarding a shade structure for the Ice Rink. Results of that survey can be viewed on the project web page under "Completed Survey Responses" via this link and demonstrated overwhelming support for a structure that can provide not only protection from the sun, but rain and snow while also providing full, year-round coverage of the arena including the rink floor, player boxes, and stands.
As the County project team evaluated a variety of structure types, it became clear that budgetary and maintenance considerations would limit the range of feasible options to meet the desires of the community.
As a result, this second survey is being conducted to collect feedback on a pre-engineered cover structure made from steel and rigid roof decking. Please take a few moments to complete the online survey and share your thoughts.
For questions, please call the Public Works Department at 505-662-8150.
