Due to ongoing dry conditions and prevailing high winds, Fire Marshal Colorado Cordova of the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) has enacted fire restrictions to Stage 1, effective April 28, within the boundaries of Los Alamos County to safeguard public health and safety, as well as protect lands, structures, natural and historical artifacts. Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) will conduct a large-scale department interoperability training exercise at the Los Alamos Middle School Saturday, April 12, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Officers will also be using the North Mesa Picnic Grounds as a staging area. Although the public will see extensive police activity as part of the exercise, LAPD wants to reassure the public there is no reason to be alarmed and asks the public to avoid the area near the Los Alamos Middle School during the hours of the exercise.
