Due to ongoing dry conditions and prevailing high winds, Fire Marshal Colorado Cordova of the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) has elevated fire restrictions to Stage 2, effective May 28, 2026 within the boundaries of Los Alamos County to safeguard public health and safety, as well as protect lands, structures, natural and historical artifacts.

A third-party contractor bored into a Los Alamos County-owned fiber line located in the vicinity of 20th Street and Trinity, Thursday morning. The damage impacts the phone and internet services for a limited number of Los Alamos County facilities, including the Eco Station. It is also affecting external phone service for the Los Alamos Public Schools. Repairs are scheduled and expected to be completed by noon on Friday.
