County enters Stage 2 Fire Restrictions on May 28, 2026

Due to ongoing dry conditions and prevailing high winds, Fire Marshal Colorado Cordova of the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) has elevated fire restrictions to Stage 2, effective May 28, 2026 within the boundaries of Los Alamos County to safeguard public health and safety, as well as protect lands, structures, natural and historical artifacts.

Abiquiu PRV Chamber Gates

The chamber housing two 54” by-pass valves at the Abiquiu hydroelectric plant must be de-watered periodically to perform inspections, perform maintenance and replace equipment. The old bulkhead gates that are used to isolate the chambers are worn and mis-aligned, allowing excessive seepage during de-watering operations. Two new bulkhead gates will be fabricated to replace the old gates.

Abiquiu Wicket Gate Hydraulic Servo Motor Replacement

The hydroelectric plant in Abiquiu has two turbine/generators that were installed in 1987 and have two servos per turbine that operate the wicket gates. All four servos were rehabilitated about 10 years ago. They are now leaking hydraulic oil again and will be replaced.

Ashley Pond Electrical Pedestal Installation

The Ashley Pond Electrical Pedestal Installation project will enhance the park by adding four new electrical pedestals along Trinity Drive. The project will expand the park’s capacity to support food trucks and community events.

Ashley Pond Park Safety Improvements

This project is addressing the safety concern of vehicle traffic from Trinity Drive impacting crowds gathered in Ashley Pond Park.

Athletic Field Renovation-Phase II-3 Year Contract

Los Alamos County awarded IFB 25-18 to Rio Grande Landscapes, LLC to renovate the playing surface of eleven fields over the next three years.
