County enters Stage 2 Fire Restrictions on May 28, 2026

Due to ongoing dry conditions and prevailing high winds, Fire Marshal Colorado Cordova of the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) has elevated fire restrictions to Stage 2, effective May 28, 2026 within the boundaries of Los Alamos County to safeguard public health and safety, as well as protect lands, structures, natural and historical artifacts.

NM-4 is now closed at the main entrance of Valles Caldera National Preserve due to active firefighting activities on the McCauley Springs Fire.

San Bar will install rumble strips on NM 502 from Airport Road to East Gate Drive.

Construction operations

Crews will grind rumble strips on centerline.
Crews will eliminate dashed yellow lines as needed.
Crews will install solid double yellow lines eliminating passing zone.
Work will occur Tuesday through Thursday from 9:00am to 3:00pm

Traffic control

During construction, road closures, lane restrictions, and detours will be in place.
Follow all work zone signs and exercise caution.
Access to residents will be maintained.
