Plastic Bag Ban Initiative

Los Alamos County is exploring a proposed ordinance to reduce the use of single-use plastic carryout bags, and we want to hear from our community.

Single-use plastic bags contribute to litter that is difficult and costly to manage, place additional strain on our waste and recycling systems, and add to the County's overall waste volume. Reducing their use could help decrease greenhouse gas emissions, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, support a culture of making use of items for as long as possible, and align with the goals of the County's Climate Action Plan.

As the County considers this proposal, community input is an important part of the process. Your feedback will help decision-makers better understand community priorities, concerns, and opportunities related to the proposed ordinance.
