Due to ongoing dry conditions and prevailing high winds, Fire Marshal Colorado Cordova of the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) has elevated fire restrictions to Stage 2, effective May 28, 2026 within the boundaries of Los Alamos County to safeguard public health and safety, as well as protect lands, structures, natural and historical artifacts.
Join the Los Alamos County Public Works and the Los Alamos Fire departments to an in-person meeting regarding the project to replace Fire Station 4.
The project is currently in the design phase after the Council’s decision last November to build the new facility adjacent to the existing structure at 4401 Diamond Drive. This meeting will permit the County’s project team to present the new fire station’s scope, share the general site layout, and discuss design considerations to minimize impacts on open space.
The purpose of the neighborhood meeting is to share information on the following project before a Minor Zone Map Amendment application submittal is made:
A request to rezone a portion of the current Open Space - Passive (OS-PO) zone district adjacent to the Fire Station No. 4 property, addressed as 4401 Diamond Drive, to Institutional (INS) zone district, which is intended to accommodate institutional or civic uses, such as schools, libraries, and transportation facilities, and publicly owned lands.
