Due to ongoing dry conditions and prevailing high winds, Fire Marshal Colorado Cordova of the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) has enacted fire restrictions to Stage 1, effective April 28, within the boundaries of Los Alamos County to safeguard public health and safety, as well as protect lands, structures, natural and historical artifacts. The community is invited to attend a meet and greet with newly appointed Los Alamos County Fire Chief Erik Litzenberg.
Chief Litzenberg was appointed by the Los Alamos County Council on Dec. 16, 2025, following a nationwide search. He brings more than 28 years of fire service and leadership experience and will begin with the Los Alamos Fire Department on Monday, Jan. 5, 2026, alongside Fire Chief Wendy Servey, who is retiring in early 2026.
