Parking and traffic during events this weekend
Published on August 07, 2026
Los Alamos, New Mexico—With the return of the County Fair & Rodeo, the Los Alamos Arts Council Craft Fair, and the popular Friday-night summer concert, here’s a heads-up on what that means in terms of traffic around the Los Alamos townsite and places you can find parking.
Construction continues along Trinity Drive—from Knecht to Timber Ridge—so be prepared for lane shifts and possible congestion. Some bus stops are closed, so plan to use stops outside the work zone or head to the open stop at 20th and Trinity. Check the Construction Cone Zone for the latest updates on all construction and traffic impacts in the County.
Meanwhile, parts of Central Avenue will be closed on Saturday, so plan alternate routes. Central will be closed Saturday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. between 15th and Oppenheimer for the fairs happening at Fuller Lodge and Ashley Pond Park. With the parade, the Saturday closure of Central will extend to the roundabout starting at 9 a.m. and last until the parade is finished.
There are several public parking places available around the townsite. Parking is available at the Municipal Building (via Central when open or Iris), the Messa Public Library parking lot (via Oppenheimer), the auxiliary library parking lot and Betty Ehart parking lots east of the Mesa Public Library (via Peach and Bathtub Row), Ashley Pond Park (via 20th), and the Justice Center parking lot (via. Trinity). The main parking lot at Mesa Public Library will close again Monday morning to continue the construction project.
We hope you enjoy the activities this weekend!
