Due to ongoing dry conditions and prevailing high winds, Fire Marshal Colorado Cordova of the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) has enacted fire restrictions to Stage 1, effective April 28, within the boundaries of Los Alamos County to safeguard public health and safety, as well as protect lands, structures, natural and historical artifacts. The Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) will host its annual memorial ceremony at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 15, as part of National Police Week. The ceremony will take place in the north parking lot of the Los Alamos Justice Center, located at 2500 Trinity Drive.
National Police Week is a time to honor, remember, and support law enforcement officers, their families, and the communities they serve. This annual observance provides an opportunity for citizens and survivors to come together and pay tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Established in 1962 by presidential proclamation, Peace Officers Memorial Day falls on May 15, with the week surrounding it designated as National Police Week. Today, tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world gather in Washington, D.C., to participate in events commemorating fallen officers.
At the Los Alamos ceremony, local Trail Life Troop # NM-1412 will assist LAPD with the color guard, and the American Heritage Girls will perform the national anthem. Pastor David Taylor will lead the opening prayer.
The LAPD encourages community members to join in this important tribute to express gratitude and remembrance for those who dedicated their lives to protecting others.
