NM-4 is now closed at the main entrance of Valles Caldera National Preserve due to active firefighting activities on the McCauley Springs Fire.
Due to ongoing dry conditions and prevailing high winds, Fire Marshal Colorado Cordova of the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) has elevated fire restrictions to Stage 2, effective May 28, 2026 within the boundaries of Los Alamos County to safeguard public health and safety, as well as protect lands, structures, natural and historical artifacts.

Join Recreation's new annual FREE soapbox-style gravity race down Central Avenue and Canyon Road! The race begins at 1:00 pm with a double elimination showdown and features four age groups. The start of the race will begin downhill on Central Ave and Canyon Rd. The Race will finish at the Aquatic Center parking lot.
Age brackets are:
Kids under 15 must have a parent present, and parents of children under 6 are encouraged to be as hands-on as necessary! All contestants must sign a liability waiver to participate.
