Los Alamos, New Mexico—In observance of Juneteenth, Los Alamos County government will join other federal, state, and local governments and close on Friday, June 19.

Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day, commemorates the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States. Recognizing and observing this holiday provides an important opportunity for all to reflect on and celebrate the accomplishments and contributions of African Americans throughout history.

While the County’s administrative offices, Atomic City Transit fixed bus routes, and the Environmental Services division are closed on Friday, the following facilities will be open during holiday hours:

  • Atomic City Transit: ACT MyRide (dial-a-ride service) will operate from 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To schedule, call (505) 661-Ride or book on the app through the Google Play or the App Store.
  • White Rock and Mesa libraries: Open 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Leisure Lagoon: Closed
  • Piñon Park Pool: Open 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Golf Course: regular hours from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Environmental Services: Eco Station and Overlook Convenience Center will be closed on Friday, June 19. If your regular trash and recycling collection day is on the holiday, place your carts curbside on Wednesday, June 17 for service. The Eco Station and Overlook Convenience Center will be open during regular hours on Saturday, June 20.

Visit the holiday closures section of the Alerts & current conditions web page for the full list of statuses and a listing of all holidays observed by the County.
