NM-4 is now closed at the main entrance of Valles Caldera National Preserve due to active firefighting activities on the McCauley Springs Fire.
Due to ongoing dry conditions and prevailing high winds, Fire Marshal Colorado Cordova of the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) has elevated fire restrictions to Stage 2, effective May 28, 2026 within the boundaries of Los Alamos County to safeguard public health and safety, as well as protect lands, structures, natural and historical artifacts.

Businesses located in the 505 Oppenheimer Suite and the 505 Apartments will be without power for three hours on the evening of July 7, 2026 as electric distribution crews replace a switch and a junction box.
Beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, line crews will shut off power to the 505 Apartments and the 505 Oppenheimer business building. The 557 Flats will not be impacted during this planned outage.
County electric trucks will be stationed at two locations along the northwest side of Oppenheimer Drive, with cones alerting motorists of the work areas. The sidewalk on this side will be closed during the project. The road will remain open, but please use caution will traveling through the area.
Line crews will begin prepping the area on Tuesday, June 30 and will have trucks, cones, and signage present starting at 8 a.m.
