NM 502 rumble strip project begins May 26
Published on May 22, 2026
Los Alamos, New Mexico—The Los Alamos County Public Works Department, in partnership with the NMDOT and under contract with San Bar Construction, announces installation of centerline rumble strips on NM 502 beginning on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. Work will continue until the end of the week. Work hours will be from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily until completion. Work will take place during off-peak traffic hours to reduce impact to the travelling public.
The project consists of installing rumble strips in the centerline of the road from Airport Road to East Gate Drive. Eradication of the center lines striping will also take place, with the implementation of new solid double yellow lines, eliminating the passing zone in front of the airport.
This project is part of ongoing efforts to enhance traffic safety in Los Alamos, particularly along this heavily traveled corridor. A one-lane closure and flagging operation will be in place during construction. Road users are advised to follow all work zone signs and exercise caution. The County appreciates the community’s patience and cooperation during this important safety improvement project.
