Lightning-strike fire burning west of town; no threat to community Published on September 04, 2026 A lightning strike started a small fire west of Los Alamos townsite and smoke has been visible this morning. Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) responded and notified Santa Fe National Forest, which has since assumed command of the incident. LAFD remains on scene assisting. Gas venting activities on Tuesday Published on August 28, 2026 New Mexico Gas Company (NMGC) has completed the hydrostatic testing of the natural gas pipeline supplying Los Alamos County with natural gas. As part of the final preparations and resupply of that pipeline, natural gas will be vented on Tuesday, September 1.
