Trinity Drive Safety and ADA Improvements (Oppenheimer to Knecht)

This project is the result of a 2016 road safety audit and has been awarded Federal Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) funding by NMDOT.

Announcement : October 15, 2026 update
- EASTBOUND traffic reduced to 1 lane from Oppenheimer to 20th
- WESTBOUND traffic reduced to 1 lane from Knecht to Oppenheimer.
- 20th Street SOUTH of Trinity: CLOSED; use driveway to west
- OPEN bus stops in construction area: Elks Lodge, O'Reily Auto Parts, Sonic, Smith's fuel station
- CLOSED bus stops: Oppenheimer, 20th

East Road 14" Water Transmission Line Replacement

DPU will oversee replacement of approximately 6,700 linear feet of 14" steel pipe installed in 1949 with a new 14" ductile iron pipe along NM-502. The existing 14" steel pipe is aged and deteriorated and experiences regular leaks. This line is a critical transmission line that conveys water from Otowi Well #4 to the Townsite area of Los Alamos.

- Construction zone: East side of Fire Station 6 and at the first curve in NM 502 at the eastern end of the airport
- Water line is installed and tie-ins have been completed

San Ildefonso Road 8” Waterline Replacement

Replacing ~4,600 feet of aged and deteriorated 8" cast iron pipe with new 12" PVC pipeline along San Ildefonso Road, which will reduce repair needs, increase water supply to North Mesa, improve reliability and fire protection, and add additional capacity.

Announcement : October 9, 2026
- Concrete work for sidewalks should be finished early in the week of Oct 12
- Replacing 8" cast iron pipe with 12" PVC pipeline along San Ildefonso Road
- Expected to be complete by January 2027

Olympic pool restoration and mechanical systems improvements

The plaster shell of the Olympic pool is the original surface from when it was built in the 1980s, and well beyond its life-expectancy. During the replastering work, it was found that the pumps and filters needed to be replaced before the scheduled 2027 target.
