Due to ongoing dry conditions and prevailing high winds, Fire Marshal Colorado Cordova of the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) has elevated fire restrictions to Stage 2, effective May 28, 2026 within the boundaries of Los Alamos County to safeguard public health and safety, as well as protect lands, structures, natural and historical artifacts.

Following two communication outages in the month of March, Los Alamos County hosted a Communications Outage Virtual Town Hall presentation on Wednesday, April 9 with panelists from the Dept. of Public Utilities, Broadband, and Emergency Management. Staff discussed the outages, the Community Broadband Network Project, and the importance of emergency preparedness at home. The video of the virtual town hall is now available to view on the County website.
