Fire Station #4 groundbreaking ceremony May 20
Published on May 18, 2026
Los Alamos, New Mexico—On Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at 2:30 p.m., Los Alamos County will celebrate the start of construction of the replacement Fire Station #4 at a groundbreaking ceremony. Join the celebration and learn more about this important improvement to our first response network.
The replacement project is much needed to modernize the station. The new LEED Gold Certified facility will provide co-ed spaces, which the current building lacks, for up to ten first responders and will have dedicated space for EMS, public education, honor guard, and wildland fire divisions. The station will be the first fully electric County facility. Modern heat-pump technology and photovoltaic panels will reduce the consumption of grid-provided electricity.
This project helps move the County toward our commitment of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 as outlined in the Los Alamos County Climate Action Plan. Furthermore, the chosen location being adjacent to the current fire station minimizes impact to the land, while the carefully planned construction will minimize disruption to existing fire station operations.
Limited parking is available at the site and along Range Road, so we are asking those who can walk a little distance to park at the golf course and take the tunnel and trail over to the fire station.
