Sign up for emergency alerts so you can be notified quickly and efficiently during emergencies such as wildfires, severe weather, public safety incidents, or other urgent events.

We encourage all community members—everyone who works, recreates, goes to school, and/or lives here—to sign up to receive emergency alerts. Signing up allows you to choose how you receive alerts (text, call, email), provide multiple contact methods, customize location-based alerts, and ensure your information is accurate.

Note: Emergency alerts from Los Alamos County’s system will come from the number 88911. This is different from the number used by LANL’s system. Residents are encouraged to read messages in their entirety, as they will contain critical instructions and situation updates.

Weather station announcements

The weather stations at Ashley Pond Park, the golf course, North Mesa Sports Complex, Overlook Park, and Piñon Splash Pad announce alerts and also serve as an emergency tool, broadcasting critical announcements during severe weather or emergencies.

NOTE: Essential services—mail delivery, trash and recycling collection, and emergency response—will continue throughout each project. Residents and businesses may still experience large equipment and construction noise.

Trinity Drive Safety and ADA Improvements

Updates for August 24-28, 2026

Haase Contracting Company will be working on eastbound Trinity Drive from Oppenheimer Drive to 15th Street. Regular construction hours are Monday-Friday 7 a.m. - 5 p.m.

NOTES: Expect delays, especially during morning and afternoon rush hours. If you seek an alternate route, obey the posted speed limit. The speed limit within the construction zone is 25 MPH.

Remember, local businesses along Trinity Drive are OPEN and need your business!

Construction operations

Crews are removing the sidewalk on the south side of Trinity Drive between Oppenheimer and 15th Street and repouring sections of the sidewalk. They are also removing curb and gutter and pouring sidewalk ramps, valley gutters and fillets. They are installing a new water line on the north side of Trinity Drive. Access is being maintained to all businesses on both sides of Trinity Drive. The parking lot to the Justice Center is open, and access to all parking lots on the south side of Trinity Drive is through 20th Street.

Trinity Drive Electrical Replacement Project

NOTE: Phase 1 has been completed. Phase 2 will occur on the south side of Trinity Drive and is expected to begin in late August, weather permitting. An initial press release was sent out June 12, regarding this project: Sidewalk work to begin on Trinity

Construction operations

• North side of Trinity Drive is complete, as of August 21.
• Crews will be working in the south side intersection of Trinity Drive and Oppenheimer Road through week of August 24: trenching, installing conduit, and repairing the road. 
• Sidewalk removal along the south side of Trinity Drive, through Timber Ridge Road will occur late in the week of August 24 though the following week. 
• Installation of electric and fiber conduit, junction boxes, and switch sleeves will occur during the week of August 31.

• Cones will be present in roadway and lanes will be shifted to allow safe workspace.

Piedra Loop Primary Electric Replacement

Construction operations

• Bixby Electric will be trenching and excavating along Piedra Loop to install electrical and fiber conduit.
• Work will mostly occur along the shoulder, but some pavement will be disturbed as well. 
• Work will occur along Piedra Loop, La Posa Ct, Mariposa Ct, Agila Ct.
• This project is anticipated to be complete by November 6, weather permitting. 

Traffic control

• Barrels and cones will be present and relocated as work progresses. 
• Should a lane need to be temporarily closed, workers will be present to help direct traffic. 
• Signs will be posted. 
• Exercise caution in the area.

H.O. Construction will begin working on Finch Street and Los Alamos Medical Center Parking lot.

Construction operations (weather permitting)

Crews will continue preparing the subgrade on Finch Street and in the Los Alamos Medical Center east parking lot. They will also begin installing curb and gutter near Trinity Drive. A water shutoff is anticipated for Wednesday, August 26, 2026, and door hangers will be placed at least 48 hours in advance for affected residents.

Atomic City Transit – Route 1 Service Alert

Due to construction, stop 102 on Route 1 is closed due to construction until further notice. Please use the Hospital stop 101 or 103 Trinity Dr & 35th Street.

Additionally, Trinity & Oppenheimer Stop 105 and  stop 106 Trinity and Ashley Pond by the O'Reilly's are closed. Please use Timber Ridge Stop 104.

Access to both Hills apartment driveways will remain open, while the eastern Los Alamos Medical Center parking lot will be closed.

Finch Street Extension and Road Improvements

San Ildefonso Road 8" Waterline Replacement

Construction operations

• File construction will be replacing 8" cast iron pipe with 12" PVC pipeline along San Ildefonso Road.
• This project is expected to be complete by January 2027.

Traffic control

• During construction, sections of San Ildefonso Road will be reduced to one lane.
• Flaggers and signage will be in place.
• Follow all work zone signs and exercise caution.
• Access to residents will be maintained.

East Road 14" Water Transmission Line Replacement

NM Underground Utilities, Inc began work on Monday, June 8. As of Monday, July 20, work is approximately 50% complete.

NOTE: While this project will not directly impact traffic flows, motorists should exercise caution through this area.

Construction operations

• Construction access points are east side of Fire Station 6 entrance and at the first curve in NM502.
• Replacing 14" steel water transmission main with new 14" ductile iron transmissions line.
• Construction will primarily occur off-road across from the Los Alamos Airport.

Location: North Mesa Rd. in front of Loma Linda Subdivision.

Roadway Striping 

Location: White Rock - Grand Canyon Dr. from Rover to NM 4

• Date:  September 1 - 3, 2026

• Impact: Slow moving striping equipment. 
• Work: Crews will be laying out and striping Grand Canyon Drive from Rover Blvd. to NM 4. Crews ask the public to be patient and to stay away from potential spray and wet paint on the road. Drive slowly and if possible take another route. Crews will move as quickly as possible.

Jemez Mountain Regional Fire Project Project

Gates to Camp May Road will be closed Monday through Thursday from August 12 - September 3 for crews to install fiber optic cables.

Starting June 1, CLOSED Monday morning – 5 p.m. Thursday through rest of 2026: Camp May Road, Camp May Campground, access to nearby trails.

New Mexico Gas Company Project

Operations

The New Mexico Gas Company (NMGC) is performing required pipeline integrity testing on the main natural gas transmission line through the end of July or early August. Natural gas is being supplied to the area via a virtual pipeline. While the main transmission line is out of service for testing, NMGC is delivering the County’s gas supply via the temporary virtual pipeline of liquified natural gas (LNG). The virtual pipeline consists of LNG being delivered and stored in tanker trucks, visible across from Camino Entrada. No supply disruptions to customers are anticipated. This project is expected though early September, after Labor Day.

• Jersey barriers and orange barrels are present on the east-bound shoulder. 
• Trucks will be entering and exiting the east-bound shoulder.

Weather and storm alert system

Review the current weather conditions across the County. When lightning is detected within 10 miles of a site during operation hours, audible and visible alerts will activate. The alert remains active for 30 minutes from the most recent lightning strike, with a visible countdown timer showing when it is safe to resume outdoor activities.

Fire restrictions

Fire Marshal Colorado Cordova with the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) has announced all fire restrictions in Los Alamos County are lifted, effective June 28, 2026. The decision comes after careful evaluation of recent rainfall, fuel moisture levels, fire activity, and current and forecasted weather conditions. 

With the lifting of restrictions, residents and visitors are now welcome to enjoy outdoor activities at County parks and developed campsites. Campfires and charcoal grills are once again permitted. However, Fire Marshal Cordova strongly encourages everyone to practice caution and common sense to reduce the risk of human-caused wildfires. 

Additionally, while fire restrictions have been lifted in Los Alamos County, individuals visiting areas outside of the county still need to comply with fire restrictions set by local, state and federal authorities, including Pueblos and other counties. These measures are crucial to preventing fire incidents and safeguarding the community and its natural resources.
